Oishi Workers Won Strike

November 27, 2018

Oishi striking workers led by Liwayway Marketing Inc. Workers Union (LIWO-ANGLO-KMU), are now back at work after their three-month long strike.

On November 22, 2018, the workers’ union and the management of Liwayway Marketing Corp. (LMC) signed an agreement to reinstate more than 40 workers who were previously placed under floating status.

Aside from reinstatement with payment of backwages, they may also get strike duration pay if the uniom gets favorable decision on the pending labor-only contracting case before the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

The strike which started on August 23, 2018, has successfully paralyzed 100% of LMC operations and has caused the loss of 75 million worth of profits of the company. The union launched the strike in response to LMC’s numerous violations of labor standards and unfair labor practices.

The victory of the Oishi workers is indeed a testament to the power of collective action!
