Occupy Abandoned Housing Units
Defend Job Philippines expresses our full support to the growing Occupy Movement of idle housing units of urban poor group, Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap (Kadamay). We salute our almost 500 homeless brothers and sisters in Rodriguez, province of Rizal for taking over abandoned housing units for members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police.
As Defend Job Philippines advocate and push for just aspirations and legitimate demands of Filipinos for jobs, homes and social justice, we are one with thousands of urban poor families their rights to decent and affordable housing to the government of President Rodrigo Duterte.
We urge the Duterte administration to address the issues of homelessness in the Philippines and provide homes for poor Filipino families with nowhere to go especially this rainy season. Instead of terrorizing groups and individuals, it is in high time for the State to fulfill its obligations to its people and ensure that they will have homes to call their own.
We hope that the present government will show some mercy and compassion to our poor people living in slums and streets across the country.
We stand firm that amid rising and worsening state of poverty and homelessness in the Philippines, to OCCUPY is justified.
