Free Land Distribution
S A K A June 5, 2018
Sama-samang Artista para sa Kilusang Agraryo (Artists’ Alliance for Genuine Agrarian Reform) or SAKA condemns the collusion of state forces with the armed goons of landgrabbers in harassing the struggling peasants of Lupang Ramos, Dasmariñas, Cavite. The contested 372-hectare patch of land, which the Ayalas are reported to have stakes in, is currently the site of KASAMA-LR’s bungkalan campaign—a movement to occupy and cultivate land they have been tilling for decades and must by now already own. Gunshots have been fired at the farmer encampment following serial attempts at harassment that include punching a 62-year old peasant and beating a 45-year old farmer with a crowbar.
We enjoin other artists and cultural workers to stand with the peasant sector in the growing campaign against feudalism and for the enactment of #GenuineAgrarianReformNow. With the peasant bodycount also rising under worsening conditions of impunity in the countryside, we call on our colleagues to stand with national democratic activists and the basic masses in the just demand to #StopKillingFarmers and #EndImpunity.
